At StrideLabs, we see Martin Luther King Day as particularly solemn and significant this year – a time for deep reflection, meditation and new resolve. This is largely because of the role we believe we all must play in striving to realize MLK’s vision amid the ongoing assaults on our basic democratic freedoms and people of color.
Women and especially Black women are being disproportionately impacted by job cuts and the slashing of DEI programs that cultivate new talent. Companies that once invested in DEI initiatives a year ago to include more women and people of color in the workforce are forgetting the powerful business case for diversity and inclusion.
The end result is the rolling back of the progress towards the dream of inclusion and equity that Martin Luther King Jr. fought so hard for.
But we are not powerless.
This is why we’re reaching out – to strengthen our StrideLabs community and ensure our momentum isn’t stymied but instead continues to build.
We are proud that with your help, StrideLabs is actively accomplishing the following despite the challenges:
- We are nurturing career pathways to serve nonprofits and community-based organizations so they have the tools they need to successfully operate in a shifting technological landscape. Women-led organizations and those that serve low-income people of color communities are migrating off spreadsheets and other outdated systems. With our support they are adapting to Salesforce, and working with Google tools in new ways and other platforms to improve outcomes. They are much more effectively tracking donors, programs, and community impact to buttress community expansion.
- StrideLabs interns are stepping into careers. Not only are they learning, they are getting paid to work alongside nonprofit professionals as data analysts, Salesforce admins, and offering implementation and other tech support to close the digital divide.
- Importantly, we’re centering community building and energizing ways to contribute so we bring folks together even in difficult times to foster resilience through enjoyable events, such as our Pickle-athon and continuous outreach.
